The vast majority of the furniture we make is finished by hand here on site using top quality stains, waxes and oils. By carefully blending and testing the various treatments available to us, we can achieve anything from a clear protective coating only to a virtually black finish with numerous shades in between the two

Customers are of course welcome to supply us with a sample of their preferred colour, perhaps from their existing furniture, for us to use to get the best results possible

If preferred, customers can choose to apply the finish themselves and the price is adjusted accordingly. We are happy to offer advise on the finishing procedures

Painted finishes have become very popluar over the last few years and this again is something we do here on site. We can either paint or apply a 'wash' finish were the wood grain is not completely hidden, a finish often referred to as 'Shabby Chic'

Various other finishes can also be offered. We can distress or age the appearance of your furniture or apply a combination of wax and paint to achieve the desired effect. This is also more practical in some instances, a table top for example should always be waxed rather than painted

Certain woods are available which are 'Knot Free' These are excellent when a painted finish is required as they obviously have no knots to 'bleed' through into the paint, although this is something we treat against when using standard woods were knots are evident

When a painted finish is chosen, we ask our customers to supply us with the top coat paint so they can decide on the exact colour.  Alternatively we can source the paint on our customers behalf. We carry out all preperation work and undercoating required and will return any left over paint to the customer for future use

There is a vast choice of paints available but in our opinion the better quality paints give the best finish, its well worth the extra costs involved

We recommend Farrow & Ball Estate Eggshell

We fit Small or Large wooden knobs to our bespoke furniture but customers are welcome to supply us with their own knobs/handles for us to fit for them during the finishing process

Please inform us at the time of ordering if you intend to supply us with your own handles or knobs so we can make a note in the system to avoid us making any single centre holes in the wood were a two hole handle may be wanted

There is a massive selection of knobs and handles available either on-line or from the local DIY Superstores

Other stores include Dunelm, Home & Bargain, Wilkinsons and The Range. It's worth pointing out that they are considerably cheaper when bought in bulk packs

There's a few things to consider when choosing your fittings:

Knobs can be used for both horizontal and vertical openings but do not offer the grip that a handle does, especially on wide drawers were the weight, once the drawer is full, needs be taken into account

Rigid handles, such as Bar type, can again be used on horizontal and vertical openings, wereas the drop type 'loose' handles are really only suitable for using horizontally

If buying on-line, remember that handles will often be sold by the 'centres' size. This is the distance between the centre of the two holes that will need to be drilled rather than the actual length of the handle itself. This 'centres' measurement is also the one you will need to look for if changing the handles on existing furniture

Bar handles are very popular and give a clean and contemporary look to furniture. The design enables them to be used for both horizontal and vertical opening. They are available in either a bright chrome or brushed steel finish with a vast range of lengths to choose from

Cup handles, although generally associated with office type furniture, can look just as good in the living room, kitchen or bedroom. Note that they are available with screws on show or 'dummy' screws with hidden fixings

These are a very popular horizontal handle. The back plate enables them to hide holes made previously, so replacing like for like is not required. These are generally available in Black (Pewter) and Bronzed finishes

Crystal knobs add a touch of luxury to even the most basic furniture. Cut Glass knobs give a similar effect for a fraction of the cost. As well as the clear, they also look stunning in black

Ceramic knobs are available in many different designs and colours and look particuarly good on reclaimed pine furniture like dressers and chests

Chosing the right knobs or handles for your furniture can make all the difference and make it truely 'bespoke'
